Laura Ionta - Dean of Sutherland

I joined the Bream Bay College community in July 2019, I am indebted to the staff, students and whanau who have made me feel very welcome. I am originally from Scotland but have spent the last 5 years travelling the world with my husband and two daughters. Our nomadic lifestyle has allowed me to experience teaching science and physics to students from a range of different cultures and develop a greater appreciation for cultures.

As the new Dean of Sutherland, I am looking forward to working with Alison Dalgleish to support and encourage the students both in and outside the classroom. One of my favourite quote is: “From tiny acorns, mighty oaks grow”. Every student has the potential to reach greatness with the right sort of encouragement and support. The key to success is fostering great relationships with our students and whanau, I look forward to developing these with you.

Amanda Nearing - Dean of Inverness

I am excited to be working with Mr. Mark Bayer and our amazing team of whaanau teachers. This is my third year here and I am also a Year 8 homeroom teacher and a Year 7 Digital Technology teacher. My teaching practice and deanship is grounded within the beliefs of a holistic learning approach.  As quoted from W.E.B Du Bois, "Education must not simply teach work-it must teach Life." I love working and building relationships with our young people and seeing them grow. Being from Canada, I have been overwhelmed with how welcoming everyone has been in the community. I look forward to another year at Bream Bay College and the opportunity to teach within our beautiful region.
